Summertime
I looked around the sanctuary and wondered if many of our congregation would be enjoying their summer vacation this week. The summer slump had not hit our church in earnest, yet. It seems that each week while some were traveling others were back and still others were visiting from afar.
Everyone needs to take some times of recreation, but when your passion is seeing your community won for Christ you don’t want to see anyone break their focus. Our attendance and the dozens of volunteers that give their time each week are indicators of our commitment and focus. We take it very seriously.
Yet, each week when the vacationers return, I notice a extra spring in their steps and an excitement in their voices. Could it be that Jesus was right when he said, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest” (Mark 6:31)? I’ll let you know what I discover sometime. I’ll be back to work on Monday; my vacation will be over!
