Thanksliving (part 1)

Outside of my office is a bulletin board with things our HeathKids are thankful for.  Some of the things listed are dogs, family, Christmas, God, and friends.  Also, there are some things listed by our kids that most people may not think to be thankful for such as wood, rugs, paper and one 3 year old is thankful “that doors close.”  I am thankful that doors close too!  While we may smile at the cute thankfulness of kids, they have a great perspective that is Biblical that many adults forget in their daily lives.  1 Thessalonians 5:18 says “in everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you” (KJV).

Wow!  How can we be thankful “in everything”?  Even when our bank account is low or when we find out a close family member has terminal cancer?  Even when we are having relationship issues?  Even when God seems far away?  We are to be thankful then?  Yes, the Apostle Paul would say.  He even says that this is God’s will for believers!

During this month of Thanksgiving, I challenge you to allow the Holy Spirit to examine your life for areas where you are not thankful.  Allow Him to cleanse your ungratefulness and pour into you an attitude of gratitude and contentment in all areas of your life.
