Perspective
Take a moment and think of a problem that you are dealing with right now. Would you classify it as a big problem or as a small problem? Imagine you are dealing with that same problem and you get a call that your child or parent has been involved in a very serious accident. Now, how important would that problem be in light of the news you just received about your family member? You probably wouldn’t be as concerned about it, would you? The problem didn’t go away. So, what has changed? Your perspective!
Perspective is an interesting principle. It can change instantaneously. It can blind us, if we allow it to. Thankfully, it can be changed, also. If my perspective is based only on this earthly life, then I will miss much of what God has planned for me. However, if I view my life through heavenly glasses, my earthly perspective will change greatly. Colossians 3:1-3 says, Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God (NIV). Is your perspective more heavenly minded or earthly minded? Do you get angry at the things that anger God? Do you care about the things that God cares about? Are you more worried about who will win the United States Presidential election this year or about being ready for the day with Jesus comes back? It is about perspective! What is your perspective today?
Lord Jesus, may my perspective be like your perspective was when you were here on earth as the God-Man. You were all about your Father’s eternal business. Please give me the desire and the courage to look at this earthly life as You looked at it when You were here and then live in light of this perspective. May I set my heart and mind on You! Amen
